Insulation and Heating

When considering the temperature that we want to keep our homes and offices at we must consider the insulation that is installed and alongside the insulation heating. The average person cannot do a great deal about the efficiency of the insulation heating that is installed in our homes but we can influence the insulation fit.

We can help to reduce home insulation heating costs by ensuring that that the absolute best insulation that we can afford is installed. If we spend too little on the insulation heating costs will rise and the losses will negate our good intentions of installing insulation in the first place.

Heating duct insulation is one area that the homeowner can easily improve the insulation properties in their home. Most furnaces are located in the basement of the house and the heated air is then transported to the point of the delivery through areas of the building that are not heated. All along these duct runs we are losing energy through the lack of insulation heating up areas of the home that do not need it. Duct insulation is simple to apply and can usually be installed by the average DIY enthusiast after installation of the ducts. It does not have to be put in when the heating system is. Duct insulation comes in two common forms. Rolls of fibreglass that are simply wrapped around the outside of the ducts and secured in place with tape, and preformed lengths that are split along their length and slipped over the ducts. The amount of duct insulation that you require will be determined by the amount you already have, whether the ducts run along heated or unheated internal areas and the climatic area that you live in.

Insulation and heating go hand in hand but so do insulation and cooling. It is as important in hot climates to ensure that the energy that is being used to keep an area cool is kept to an absolute minimum. The same principles that are used for insulation heating are those that need to be considered for insulation of cooling ducts. Another consideration must be humidity. If a duct runs through an area that does not have temperature control water will condense on the outside if it is not sufficiently insulated. If it runs outside it must be protected from any water ingress by a waterproof barrier that will stop the insulation absorbing water and becoming less effective.

Induction heating insulation must also be considered when thinking about insulating your property. The most effective and safest form of insulation to use when thinking about induction heating insulation is fiberglass. This has excellent electrical insulation resistance properties as well as thermal insulation properties so it makes it ideal for this application.

Whether you decide to solve your insulation heating problems, or employ a specialised contractor, good preparation and installation and the selection of high quality materials will save you money on your home insulation costs for many years to come.
